The project starting point was to draw the company's history, charting progress and growth over an 100 year period, including information on leadership, trading locations, architecture, interior layout, product innovation and social trends. We then went on to research current and future influences on shopping including demographics, technology, regulation, legislation and environmental factors. From this we developed five guidelines (the design DNA) for M&S store design with illustrations of how these might be applied across the chain.
